    for each of the problems presented in order to better serve the tourism sector of Southeast Asia. SUMMARY It was determined that in order to best promote tourism in  Southeast Asia that one way to attract the most people that would have a positive impact on the area would be to promote conference and business tourism. To bring  together people from all manner of industry and business to meet in a site that is conducive to their enjoyment while conducting business, is to promote not only the United  States but also global destinations. Studies have shown that many of those who have attended a conference in a new destination later return to that destination for the purpose  of pleasure travel. Another question in attracting conference tourism would be what makes the best city to host any event? Michael Payne, the executive vice president of Smith, Bucklin  & Associates, an association management company with offices in Chicago and Washington, D.C., says "larger cities do the best job of looking after international guests because they have greater resources"  (Baker, 2000, 65). "On the other hand however", according to Julie Heizer, the director of tourism at the Washington, D.C., Convention and Visitors Association, "secondary cities tend to display  the most initiative to sell themselves" (Bake, 2000, 65). PROBLEM 1 The first and most pressing problem is how to promote tourism in Southeast Asia. How would one  communicate and promote this area as one that would be a likely destination? The World Tourism Conference met earlier this year in order to better understand how to promote  and develop tourism in their countries. The eventual goal, they declared, is to set up a unified system of accounting that is comparable across all UN member countries and
