This may be combined with important elements from other tools, such as PEST, Porters Five Forces and Value Chain assessment,  applying some of the important factors from these to determine the way these may fit in with a SWOT analysis and how they may impact and be impacted by the  four generic strategies available to firms and strategies a firm may use to deal with the influences. Southwest Airlines face many influences, the influences chosen for each element of  SWOT analysis are identified underneath the relevant heading, with the potential tactics that may be utilised and each of the generic strategies listed across the grid. The airline industry as  a whole has seen major technological development. A significant strength within Southwest is its use of technology, utilising effectively of the sales and marketing medium, including the use of the  Ding program, providing information needed for efficient dynamic pricing strategies as well as supporting operations. In a low-cost strategy the organisation will be seeking to reduce costs (Quick MBA, 2012;  Mintzberg et al, 2008), therefore the Internet which is a relatively low-cost distribution medium web utilised effectively to sell tickets and support the low cost position. With a differentiation strategy  the technological development and increased facilities on-board may be leveraged as a way of providing additional services to customers which differentiates them from other companies. The organisation is already utilising  technology on-board, and has ordered already committed itself to making on-board improvements to the entertainment systems (Southwest Airlines, 2012). The company has a loyalty scheme which collects a significant amount  of data regarding their passengers, and associated information such as lifestyle and travel patterns. In a focused strategy there would be the potential to mine this information in order to
