    large, with facilities in 45 counties, St. Vincent Indianapolis Hospital is one of the 17 hospitals providing a range of healthcare services. The Hospital, and the St Vincent Health  Organisation are a not for profit organization with the guiding principles taken from their Catholic foundation and the mission of Saint Vincent de Paul, which is stated as "to minister  to the bodies, minds and spirits of those in need" (St Vincent Health, 2007). This mission and vision statements are based in Christian ideals of inclusion and care, with the  desire to provide values driven healthcare that helps to create a healthier society, undertaking this with the use of partnership with other healthcare professionals and communities which also share the  same values (St Vincent Health, 2007). The services offered are a wide range both preventative, treatment and palliative services. There are many pressures in the provision of healthcare, technology  is changing and new treatments are becoming increasingly available, patients are becoming more aware of treatment and provider choices, at the same time many costs are increasing while the budgets  to pay for healthcare are decreasing. The pressure to save money on healthcare costs are seen at all levels, including insurance and managed healthcare companies. The hospitals have to provide  the healthcare in a manner that meets their core values and standards as well as attracts the visitors that are needed. The healthcare environment is one that is very competitive  and in many areas of healthcare there are benefits to be gained form larger number of patients that are treated as a result of the economies of scale due to  the high overheads and lower marginal costs of treatment. Increased efficiency is achieved through the way the patients are treated and care is provided, it is also aided with the
