    This 10 page paper looks at the strategic development and direction of two companies; The News Corporation and The Brewery Group Denmark (BGD). The paper uses these cases, supplied by the student. The paper undertakes a SWOT analysis of TNC, looks at the way value is added, the advantages and disadvantages of related diversification and the future strategy. The second part of the paper examines the BGD position in order to make a recommendation for the future strategy.

There are many core competences and the organisation of the  global business has taken place so that there is a transfer of the knowledge across the different companies. This was seen in the way that the BSkyB company is  now at the centre of the Sky Global network so that companies making a loss in 2000, such as STAR in Asia, can learn and adopt similar business practices.  The total concept is one that appears to work as a business model, there is the core competences of taking on a weaker media company in the target country, and  then transforming this into a viable media company with the use of exiting skills and talent being brought in as well as investment being made. This is a method of  entering markets that sees fewer barriers, as weaker companies are seen as less of a threat by existing successful companies. The ability of Murdoch to influence those in power has  also placed the company in a strong position ion the past, and may do so again the future. The vision that is held is one that is very viable, with  the global media network with the potential of acting as a single supplier for global advertising,. There are also weaknesses. As time has gone by the Murdoch family holding  has been reduced, with share sales in terms of floatations, as seen in Australia and cooperate deals as seen in the US. However, these have also helped reduce debt and  as such facilitated the further expansion into other areas, both geographically and in terms of media sectors. The debt restructuring that took place in 1994 is still continuing at
