Thee short term growth in the retail sector appears likely to  be limited this has reached maturely and with hash external economic condition where there is likely to be a fall, or a continued low level of growth in aggregate demand  in the traditional markets. The firm has developed some strategies in order to compete, this has included the development of a low cost range of products, there has also been  the development of new markets, with the Shakkti project. When looking at future strategy there needs to be the ability to build on strength, minimise weaknesses, take advantage of opportunities  and reduce exposure to threats. Unilever has a well established brand range and has proven that they can adapt and development new lines these are strengths, weaknesses include the  vulnerability to the low cost products, the low level of profits that are being realised from the Shakkti project, which may be seen as a weakness, but this is also  a potential opportunity in order to increase the profits which are realised though this channel. The opportunities may be seen in the way that the market is changing, there may  be maturity and stagnation in the demand levels, but there are likely to be room for new brands to take market share from others. The threats are mainly the economic  conditions that are prevalent that make growth hard in the traditional markets at the current time as well as the emerging competition. There us the potential for both market  expansion to carry on as well as the development of product expansion. The firm has developed some low cost profits that have competed in with Nirma when that entered
