In order to assess the importance of the study of humanities, and in particular why it should be seen as appropriate in technical institutes of education, it would be useful
to consider the nature and purpose of humanities and why it is seen as a valid field of study in general terms. Subsequently, an investigation of the way in which
humanities can be applied to other fields of science and technology will demonstrate that it should form an integral part of the way in which such disciplines are taught.
For example, it could
be asserted that the field of humanities is in itself such a broad area that it cannot be said to be divorced from any other area of study. Questions of
ethics, for instance, will invariably arise in many areas of scientific study and research: similarly, the study of history can provide valuable insight into the thinking behind modern scientific and
technological theory. In this sense, it is evident that even pure forms of scientific and technological study will require some grounding in certain areas of the humanities, and this is
itself would indicate that there can be no genuinely thorough comprehension of other areas of study unless the student has at least some understanding of the relevant areas of humanities.
