Studies of Interventions, Including Exercise, Pharmacotherapy and Precutaneous Revascularization in PAD: A Research Proposal

    Number of Pages: 16

    Summary of the research paper:

This 16 page paper outlines a study of possible treatment for PAD, peripheral arterial disease. This paper considers the views presented in the current literature, and outlines the use of a quantitative format to consider the views of others in regards to PAD and prevention efforts. Further, this study also integrates a view of existing efforts and pharmacological protocols that can be beneficial in preventing the problematic outcomes of PAD, which can include lost ambulation, excessive pain and discomfort and long-term loss of functioning.

In fact, researchers have considered both the mitigating factors in the development of PAD, including pre-existing comorbid conditions, and the use of specific assessment and treatment protocols. Specific  interventions, including exercise, pharmacological efforts and precutaneous revascularization, have been recognized as substantial factors in reducing the problematic nature of PAD in adult populations. Further, the connection between pre-existing  conditions and risk factors for PAD have also become central to preventative efforts, and considerations regarding the use of a variety of different tools, including effective assessments and treatment systems,  are central to this study. This study considers the views presented in the current literature, and outlines the use of a quantitative format to consider the views of others in  regards to PAD and prevention efforts. Further, this study also integrates a view of existing efforts and pharmacological protocols that can be beneficial in preventing the problematic outcomes of  PAD, which can include lost ambulation, excessive pain and discomfort and long-term loss of functioning. REVIEW OF LITERATURE The concept of cardiovascular disease refers to a  number of different conditions, but many perceive this term as it relates simply to heart disease. Cardiovascular disease, in fact, not only refers to heart disease, but also to  problems with the arteries that carry the blood away from the heart. In recent years, a focus on arteriosclerosis, hardening of the arteries, also known as peripheral arterial disease  (PAD) has resulted from an increase in conditions related to this problem (Braunstein, 2002). The hardening of peripheral arteries includes the arterial vessels that are peripheral to the coronary  arteries, including the aorta and the vessels that branch off from the aorta and provide blood to the major organs and appendages, including the brain, the arms and legs, gastrointestinal
