This is a marketing plan for a product in the "Whimsy/Gift Items" category. The product is a stylized birdhouse made from a dried "dipper style" gourd. The gourd
is manipulated during development into a wide variety of possibilities. It can be looped and tied as the neck of the gourd elongates, and it can be inscribed with
words or graphics when fully developed but still small in size. As the gourd grows, whatever has been inscribed on it when small enlarges as well, and is a
permanent feature of the final product. Thus a floral scene becomes a larger, permanent floral scene; a special order name inscribed on the gourd is in place for as
long as the gourd remains intact. This is a new product for North America. Obviously it is not particularly well suited to
the city dweller, but the majority of North American residents live outside large cities. It can even be attractive to the city dweller as a unique novelty item and
used for interior decor. Product Name The product is the Winged Habitat. Travelers in
the countryside have seen birdhouses made of gourds hanging in colony settings or hanging singly. The longneck gourd has been used for generations as birdhouses, but it has never
been available commercially on a large scale. We know of no other time that such a highly stylized one has been available at all.
