County. The problem of bringing oil to the island, along with other energy problems, are discussed. Transportation solutions are proposed as one resolution, something which would also have a positive  effect on Long Island as a whole. Bibliography lists 5 sources. SA148Suf.rtf Much of Long Islands problems are related to transportation  and the inability for people, particularly in Suffolk county, to get off of the island except by boat. In order to leave one has to go through Nassau county which  is generally crowded. While enduring crowds may be simply an inconvenience, it affects a great many things. For example, prices on Long Island are higher due to the fact that  everything has to be driven in or hauled in by boat. This goes for oil too and when there is an oil shortage, and high prices, Suffolk County gets hit  hard. There are solutions to the problems that involve transportation and indirectly involve energy. Long Island has to be self-sufficient to some extent and while it has done well,  utility costs for example are high. Suffolk Countys residents rely on septic tanks which makes things less than exemplary. In general, Suffolk Country has a unique problem related to its  isolation and high cost of energy resources. There are solutions. In 2000, a New York City company had proposed the largest Long Island energy plant in existence, which would cost  $400 million (Anastasi, 2000, p.1A). The proposed area is near LIEs Exit 66 (2000). The town of Brookhaven has authority over that particular site (2000). How did the proposal  come up? The manager of project development explains that they looked at New York and queried where additional power was needed (2000). They determined that Long Island is essentially
