    TYPE A AND B PERSONALITIES AS SUPERVISORS , October, 2001 properly! Friedman and Ulmer  were the theorists who initiated descriptions of Type A and Type B personalities. The characteristics and behaviors of each type are: Type A behaviors: * Hyper-aggressiveness leading to competitiveness  * Insecurity leading to achievement striving * Time urgency * The incessant struggle against time * Hostility leading to impatience with others (Friedman and Ulmer). * Often  obsessed with their work * tend to become aggressive, impatient, and irritable are anyone or anything that interferes with their work (Psychology, 2001). * Want to get things done and  they will do almost anything to accomplish their goals Type A personalities tend to have very little patience and they demonstrate excessive amounts of stress. Type B behaviors: *  People who do not do more than one thing at a time * Make up only about 10 percent of the population * Do things more patiently and  in keeping with their own natural rhythms * Does not feel challenged or threatened to the same extent as Type-A people * Does not experience the Type-As typical  insecurity and hostility (Friedman and Ulmer). Type B personalities tend to be far easier-going than Type A. Far more attention has been given to Type A personalities because they have  such inherent risk of coronary disease, having heart attacks and other health problems. Sharma noted there are two over-riding characteristics or features that identify the Type A personality: time  urgency or time-impatience and free-floating (all pervasive and ever-present) hostility.
