    todays business and public administration environments, the only thing of which organizations of either type can be certain is that regardless of how things are today, by tomorrow many of  those things will be different. The most successful organization is that which can recognize trends and plan for the future changed in the manner anticipated. One of the  tools commonly used for strategic planning is John Brysons 10-step strategic planning process. The purpose here is to identify the advantages and disadvantages contained in Brysons framework. Strategic Planning  John Bryson (1995) defines strategic planning as "...a disciplined effort to produce fundamental decisions and actions that shape and guide what an organization  is, what it does, and why it does it" (p. 45). Coulter (2002) expands planning to include analysis, implementation and evaluation to form strategic management. Taking the larger  view is advisable because "organizations of all types and sizes continually face changing situations" (Coulter, 2002; p. 5), and organizations can be successful only if they plan for change and  manage it rather than only react to it. The 10-Step Process Bryson (1995) offers a detailed roadmap to strategy formulation and management in  10 steps that collectively cover every aspect of planning, implementing, executing and evaluating a specific strategy. Brysons (1995) 10 steps include: 1. Planning 2. Groundwork 3. External environmental issues  4. Internal environmental issues 5. Strategy development 6. Strategy formulation 7.
