Investigating the Texas Wildlife Damage Management Service is best accomplished by examining its history of origin and purpose, its mission, structure and financial considerations in order to  determine its place within the bureaucracy of Texas government. The Texas Wildlife Damage Management Service was originally established 1929 as the Rodent Control Service; it was not until 1951 that  predatory animals were added to the program as a means by which Texas residents could harmoniously reside alongside the indigenous wildlife. With a mission statement to protect the "resources,  property and well-being of Texans from damages related to wildlife" (Texas Wildlife Damage Management Service), this particular agency has the esteemed distinction of being Americas largest wildlife damage management agency.  Servicing nearly six thousand properties on nineteen point eight million acres annually on a budget of just over six point four million dollars - acquired from state appropriations; contracts,  grants and gifts; sales and services; and investment and interest - the agency has made a significant impact upon the health and well-being of Texas wildlife populations. Just one example  of the agencys importance is controlling disease outbreaks that can harm both human and animal communities if not kept in check, which is why the recent Texas Oral Rabies Project  is considered one of the more critical of agency duties. This program, established as a means by which to "immunize coyotes via an oral rabies vaccine" (Texas Wildlife Damage  Management Service), helped to quell the fast-spreading disease from infiltrating other populations and, consequently, causing issues of health and fatality.
