Authors delve into defining telecommunications as it is assumed that the reader already knows what technology is. Authors go on to talk about telecommunications as it respects business and also looks at the concept of competitive advantage, which is anything that favorably  advantages a company. Authors provide three specific objectives of telecommunication which are to exchange ideas and information, to allow organizations and individuals to distribute information and finally, to allow organizations  to operate and with "dispersed or distant functions as if they were centrally located" (11). Management information Systems are also duly noted as relevant to the topic. The section on  computers and telecommunications provides specific information on how stand alone computers are relevant to the importance of connectivity.
