It does seem as if globalization is here to stay and even small businesses must be savvy in this realm in order to be successful. While it  is obvious that the expansion of the global workplace is relevant, there are different perspectives. For example, not too long ago NAFTA became a concern and had been criticized for  allowing cheap labor to flow through the economy. This inadvertently, and sometimes even directly, creates pockets of unemployment in developed nations. On the other hand, the economy of the 1990s  is unprecedented. Things had gone well and one has to admit that the global workplace is in part responsible for the transition. Globalization has padded the pockets of corporate executives  but some say that is to the detriment of the ordinary wage earner. In comparing and contrasting two different perspectives, a student writing on this subject might want to look  at the opinions of Robert B. Reich and Nancy J. Adler. In their relatively recent publications, each provides food for thought on the important matter of the global workplace. Reich  (1992) suggests that old concepts such as national product are no longer valid. Instead, centrifugal forces related to the global economy are in play. He looks at the problem through  the eyes of the employee. How does a worker feel as companies go global?
