itself with the deep, troubling questions of human life, but still manages to harness the entertainment value of the story. At one and the same time, it delights and entertains
us while engaging effortlessly with the deepest and most abstract questions of theology, cosmology and metaphysics, the proverbial spoonful of sugar which helps the medicine go down. Cervantes idea was
to give a picture of real life and manners and to express himself in clear language, "in simple, honest, and well-measured words," as he stated in the prologue to Part
I of Don Quixote(Miguel Cervantes online). Deep moral themes are camouflaged in all the devices of a story. Because its deeper moral
purpose is camouflaged it is able to both push the boundaries of the impossible and give that sudden shock of recognition and understanding that leads to renewal and recovery. Don
Quixote does hold some hope for the future. Cervantes was also disgruntled with the political systems as well. Just as Don Quixote had set out on a quest for truth,
justice and the chivalric way, so, too, had Cervantes. Cervantes himself had believed in uplifting rhetoric, fought for Spain, and when he returned to Madrid after slavery, he found out
