A 21 page paper discussing the drug court program and the
difficulties in evaluating it as a whole. Begun in Miami in 1989, the drug court program of
the Department of Justice has become a symbol and agent of hope throughout the nation.
Research into its efficacy has been difficult, in large part because program application does
not take the same form throughout the country. Overall statistics, however, reveal that as a
program, the drug court is one that can truly make a difference in levels of drug use and
recidivism among program participants. The paper explains the drug court program,
reviews available literature and discusses the methodology issues involved in further
investigation. Includes an abstract; bibliography lists 27 sources.
