In fact, Mario Brothers was aligned with a cartoon as well as other products to go along with the games and Nintendo became synonymous with gaming.  As the twenty-first century unfolds there is much greater competition. Sony has gained market share with PlayStation 2 for example (2005). At the same time, Nintendo also would  supersede Microsofts Xbox, and thus took the number two slot (2005). For the most part Nintendo is doing well. A spokesman remarks: "...when you offer great interactive entertainment at  a great price, players respond in droves" (2005). In 2004, Nintendo boasted $4.7 billion in sales (2005). The company continues to do well, despite a dip in sales  at one point, and the onslaught of ever-increasing competition. A SWOT analysis will help to further evaluate this company. Strengths -- The company has an excellent reputation. --Nintendo is  an industry leader. --Customers are generally satisfied with the merchandise and the merchandise is excellent in terms of quality. --Nintendo products are available in most department and discount stores.  --The company has an online presence. --Excellent branding for much of the 1990s. --Strong recent sales performance. --The company produces manuals and other peripheral products. --This is a well run  company with stellar management practices. --Nintendo markets to teens, unlike Sony and Microsoft that went after the young adult market instead (Lazarus, 2004). -- Nintendo won an award from American  Marketing Association in 2004 (Lazarus, 2004). Weaknesses -- While Nintendo was trendy during the 1990s, it has lost some of its mystique. --Gaming is not new anymore. --There  are competitors that have been more successful at reaching the younger set, such as Sony. --Nintendo is one of many companies, in one of many industries, which must deal with
