He was fortunate enough to be involved in a journey on a ship that allowed him to see nature of a very different kind, and thus observe nature  in a way that was perhaps impossible in the civilized world. The theories that he developed were theories which were to change the way mankind thought about life on earth,  especially those who associated life on earth with God and not science. Darwin, in "On the Origins of Species," was to make the claim, a claim that many scientists had  discussed and argued for years, that all living creatures evolve and adapt. As one author states, "after returning from the voyage of H.M.S. Beagle, reconsideration of what he had seen  on the voyage convinced him that evolution had occurred. A short time later, when he deduced the theory of natural selection to explain the adaptations in which he had previously  seen the handiwork of God, Darwin knew that he was committing cultural murder" (Provine et al., 2003). In the following paper we provide a brief examination of Darwins work.  On the Origins of Species In the last two sentences in Darwins introduction to this text he essentially sets down his thesis, or theory, concerning species of animals in  the world, based on his observations and research. He states, "I am fully convinced that species are not immutable; but that those belonging to what are called the same genera  are lineal descendants of some other and generally extinct species, in the same manner as the acknowledged varieties of any one species are the descendants of that species.
