However in recent year, despite name changes and different polices, the Royal Mail is perceived in a similar manner, but with the pressures of commercial viability and threats regarding  privatisation or liberalisation of its major market; the delivery of the letters, the company needs to consider its position very carefully. To undertake this different tools may be used such  as a SWOT analysis, a PESTEL analysis and Porters Five Forces. a stakeholder analysis is also valuable, as this is currently a public service organisation. 2. SWOT Analysis Strengths  The Post Office is in an unusual situation, the fact that the company has a monopoly of the delivery of letters may be seen as a strength, as may  the recent announcement that for the first time in many years the company is showing a profit. However, for a company in the short term this may be a benefit,  and strength not only due to the lack of competition, but due to the level of service in needs to provide. The general opinion is that monopolies  are bad for the consumer or user, as in these circumstances the supplier or producer has total control over the market. The consumer has to accept the prices and conditions  set by the company. People do not have a choice of provider as there is only one. The way in which they operated was completely in their control as the  consumer had no substitute, the product was perfect inelastic, and as such when prices increased the consumers would have to continue paying. The only way in which the sector could  be influenced was by legislation or government pressure. If we look at the postal service and the monopoly of letter deliveries where there are currently daily deliveries
