    elite, there was a sense that those in office were working hard and not really abusing their power. They further were trying to effect democracy as it was intended. At  least, in its infancy, this community tried to create something that was equivalent with the democracy that the people longed to embrace. However, it does seem that the  development of that community had departed from the original Constitutional design and this was by no means something that was contrived but a situation that merely evolved. It is  hard to put men in a room, or in the living quarters that they endured, without seeing changes in the men and in the way in which democracy is meted  out. Human nature to a great extent prompted politics to depart from the original intent of the Constitution. One question looms large. Does the Washington community truly reflect pre-Constitutional views  of democracy, representation and power? The answer is not crystal clear but certainly a look at the times and what went on in politics is appropriate. Also, ideas about democracy  and what the Constitution means and the intent of the founders are certainly important considerations. First, the Constitution is a noble document that is often referred to with awe and  reverence. The framers are still held high in esteem. In fact, they are called "framers" with that same respect as one gives to the Constitution itself. Thomas Jefferson could do  no wrong. It seems, at least according to much rhetoric spouted today, that the Constitution was perfect, the framers were right and no one should change anything as it was  then. In fact, this idea seems to be prevalent today but it should be noted that while the Constitution was created with a great deal of foresight, it is something
