    Constitution and what they actually had in mind when they wrote it. When something is proposed today, people suggest that the framers would go one way or another. For example,  today, there are two major political parties. Although there are many other parties, they are laughable. No one really has a chance of becoming president under a third party label  and this has been proven time and time again. Americans are either staunch Democrats or Republicans and if they are not, tend to vote for either, suggesting that not doing  so is "throwing away a vote." The sentiment is not far from the truth. America has evolved into a two-party system. Some might ask, if the framers had envisioned  the development of such a trend, might they have created a different model? Might they not have opted for separation of powers, for example? First, it is important to look  at the separation of powers. In grammar school, children learn about the system of checks and balances. While common knowledge, people often forget how much power each branch of government  wields alone. In effect, the United States Government is formed by three separate parts of the national government which are the executive,  the legislative and the judicial branches. The constitution gives broad powers to each and at the same time controls abuse of power by any one branch with a system  of checks and balances. This system allows each branch to participate in and check the affairs of the other two branches. While these checks and balances were initiated  by the United States Constitution there have been many controversies and much discussion throughout the nations development. The problem that crops up in dealing with a two-party system is that
