    Theory Of Operant Conditioning

    Number of Pages: 4

    Summary of the research paper:

4 pages in length. Conditioned response is a learned behavior based upon the tenets of positive reinforcement, a methodology that elicits a greater scope of success due to the constructive nature of this process. Children and dogs, for example, who are taught how to behave using this motivational approach that rewards good behavior are far better off than those who are punished for bad behavior, learning instead to fear retribution for inappropriate actions rather than eagerly await reward for good conduct. The classroom is one of many environments where the incentive-based aspects of operant conditioning are routinely used for a number of desired behaviors. Bibliography lists 3 sources.

The classroom is one of many environments where the incentive-based aspects of operant conditioning are routinely  used for a number of desired behaviors. Through scientific progress, scientists have discovered the laws of human motivation that regulate our actions in life. These new disciplines in  genetics, learned behaviors, instinct, and culture are growing, and evidence is surmounting to identify and isolate causes to human behavior (Winn, 2002).  Ivan Pavlov and B.F. Skinner introduced the world to an approach to conditioning behavior response without the need for negative reinforcement; rather, the application of positive reception proved a much  more viable approach toward bringing out the desired behavior. As such, employing this concept within the classroom provides for a much more effective management outcome. Utilizing rats and  pigeons, Skinner (1972) set out to prove that human behavior is based upon the fundamental concept of operant - reward - conditioning similar but not parallel to Pavlovs (2003) conjecture.  An empty, soundproof container sits with nothing in sight but a dish and a lever. When a hungry rat is placed inside, natural instinct takes over as the  rat begins to investigate the enclosure in search of food. Upon its travels, the rat will inevitably apply body pressure to the lever, which in turn causes food to  appear on the plate. The extent to which Skinners (1972) theory of hard determinism has helped contemporary society better comprehend the importance of consistent behavioral patterns and the manner
