    years later are arguing over who gets what in divorce court. Did they not genuinely love each other when they said they did? Was that love not real?  The reality is that their love was real at the time they felt it, and its disappearance has nothing to do with their love not being real, but has  everything to do with the elastic and transient nature of love. The Transient and Elastic Nature of Love Raymond Carvers What We Talk  About When We Talk About Love is a compilation of short stories and are perhaps his most famous works. These stories are forward, shocking, funny, depressing, weird and always  surprising. They are simple stories and often the author chooses to leave out what could be considered pertinent details but then again, the reader is left feeling the rawness  of the story which is exactly what Carver intended (Raymond Carver - What We Talk About). The rawness of these stories tends to center on the idea of  the transient nature of love. These stories are snapshots of sorts into the lives of various people with various troubles. The reader easily sympathizes and understands the  characters and their quest for happiness, despite the fact their lives are typically mired in chaos and confusion. Carver presents an array of characters throughout the 17 stories contained in  this book (Gems: Books that Inspire Excitement, Devotion and Comment, 2002).
