It insists that there must be something other than what is said which makes  what is said true. Hence, the existence of something--a true life after death--will support the assumption that there is life after death. According to the student, controversies arise from  mistaken interpretations of the key terms of the theory. In order to evaluate why this is so, it is important to review the theory. What is the Correspondence Theory of  Truth? First, the theory has its roots in ancient Greece. The correspondence theory is generally traced back to Aristotles well-known definition of truth which is: "To say of what  is that it is not, or of what is not that it is, is false, while to say of what is that it is, or of what is not that  it is not, is true" (qtd. in "Correspondence," 2002, p.PG). The more contemporary version is also rather confusing and somewhat difficult to accept. According to Honderich (1995), what has already  been said is true in that "whether what is said about the world is true surely must depend on how the world is" (p.166). This is a rather simple observation  but does provide strong intuitive support for one of the more significant philosophical accounts of truth (1995). The correspondence theory contends that propositions are true if they correspond to the  facts (1995).
