    could have known then that the United States of America, a relatively recent player on the global stage, would be lighting the way of civilization for the twentieth century.  Ever since the Industrial Revolution of the previous century, America had shown itself to be a force to be reckoned with. A nation formed primarily by immigrants who were  hoping to seek a better life, it was Americas allure as a cultural oasis which attributed to its amazing success in the twentieth century. In fact, Uncle Sam had  become such a formidable world leader in terms of science, technology, business, entertainment and diplomacy, that the twentieth century is largely regarded by historians as being "Americas century." Most of  the immigrants who arrived on Americas shores by way of Ellis Island or the Golden Gate Bridge were ambitious and extremely interested in achieving wealth and prosperity for themselves and  their families (Moore and Simon, 2000). By the early twentieth century, stories began circulating across the oceans that the United States was a welcoming haven to everyone regardless of  socioeconomic status, and soon, the American Dream became an ideal many fortune-seeking immigrants became convinced was within their grasp. It seemed like anything was possible and the sky was  the limit when brothers Orville and Wilbur Wright piloted their homemade plane a short distance off the ground in 1903. This little experiment would make the world a smaller  place and would eventually enable a person to travel thousands of miles within hours instead of days and weeks. It is truly the inventions of twentieth century America which  made everyone stand up and take notice. Although plans for a fuel-propelled automobile had been on several drawing boards during the previous century, it was the ingenuity of Henry
