Strengths Tyco is a large international organisation, which operates in three separate industry segments; these are security solutions,  fire protection services and flow control which is the valves and pipes industry segment (Tyco, 2012). A number of very well-known and respected brands for both the domestic and commercial  markets are part of the Tyco portfolio; these include ADT, TrueVue, Ansul, American Dynamics, Grinnell, Visonic and Sensormatic (Tyco, 2012). These brands have given the company a strong market  position, the firm has gained a 12% share of the global security market, the fire protection segment of the firm has 11% share of the global market and the flow  control maintenance has gained 7% share of the global market (Morning Star, 2012). In some sectors a major benefit is not only that of market share, but the way  in which revenue is owned, with a high level of recurring revenue. For example, ADT North American residential and small businesses state in the 2011 annual report that 90% of  their revenue is from recurring sources, and only 10% is non-recurring (Tyco, 2012). This is a major strength, as revenues are ongoing. In all industry sectors there is a relatively  high level of recurring revenue, although not as high as ADT (Tyco, 2012). The structure of the firm is changing and this may be seen as another strength; the division  of the firm into specialised separate businesses was planned a decade ago but with the scandals seen in 2002 the plans were placed on hold (Caroom, 2012), this took place  in September 2012 with the firm structure dividing the company into three separate independent companies (Tyco, 2012; Morning Star, 2012).
