    the middle to late 1940s. Through a number of developments, computers have not only become integral components of virtually every aspect of  a persons life, but they have also been successfully assimilated into homes all across America for personal and business use. "...Computerization has touched more people more visibly in their  work than in any other kind of setting -- home, schools, churches, banking, and so on. Workplaces are good places to examine how the dreams and dilemmas of computerization  really work out for large numbers of people under an immense variety of social and technical conditions" (Computerization at Work). There is practically nothing that computers have not influenced  in one manner or another, and typography is but one of the most significant areas that has been profoundly altered by the advent of the computer.  There have been myriad technological advances throughout the past one hundred years. Indeed, the twentieth century turned out to be the springboard for the unprecedented advancement  in the graphic design industry, effectively availing entirely new and divergent concepts with which designers can apply to typography. In order to realize how the computer has brought forth  such significant changes, it is important to first understand this transformation as it relates to graphic design. Two- and three-dimensional design has much to do with the mathematical aspect  of its presence; indeed, without understanding the basics of shape, one cannot fully appreciate how two-dimensional design can transform into a three-dimensional entity. A conic section is the two-dimensional  figure that results when a plane insects a cone at various angles. Take one of these figures and revolve it, and you have a three-dimensional surface of revolution that
