    others are curious due to the benefits one can obtain such as money for college, early retirement and other perks they might have heard about. Yet, many young people go  into the private sector as they are not enamored with the current state of the military. They may feel, in this politically correct world, that the American military is too  autocratic and that they cannot express their individuality there. They may feel that such an opportunity is not right for them because of the intensity of the operation and the  strong leadership styles which are often found there. At the same time, others are drawn to the order and discipline that is associated with a military career. In exploring the  military, and the organizational and management styles it utilizes, there have been changes over the years. For example, the "Dont ask; dont tell" policy that has allowed homosexual soldiers to  continue their service as long as they did not make an issue of their sexuality, is still controversial. Some believe that this is characteristic of a loosening of authority in  the military. In fact, since the Clinton administration took command, attitudes have changed. Civilians might wonder why a homosexual cannot serve or why a woman cannot engage in combat. The  answers are rather complex but the gist of the arguments are that in battle, one has to trust the other members. Men live in close quarters during wartime, and in  peacetime as well. Homosexuality can become an issue when living with others of the same gender. Questions regarding women engaging in battle or becoming eligible for the draft is another  area of controversy. The military has undergone some changes over the years, but essentially has stayed the same. The character of the military branches have effectively remained, though attitudes have
