    This 5 page report discusses the fact that America and Americans have changed since the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and the nation’s war policies have changed with them. no longer feel that way and the implications of that increased awareness are profound.     and fierce sense of patriotism have all become part of the collective consciousness. Americans used to believe that at least the continental United States was invulnerable to outside attack, and  felt secure accordingly. They no longer feel that way and the implications of that increased awareness are profound. In order to deal with that awareness, the initiation of a homeland  defense strategy and increased war powers are something that the people themselves have called for, regardless of the paranoid naysayers who fear an infringement upon or a loss of certain  civil liberties. That defense strategy has also resulted in changes related to American policies related to war. The Changing World and Changing Policies It is worth making note of the  fact that there has never been a government enterprise that comes close to the enormous impact that will be felt because of the United States Homeland Defense Strategy. In fact,  the student working on this research project should be well-aware that even though the United States has participated in two World Wars and subsequent nightmares such as Korea, Vietnam, the  Cold War, the Gulf War, Somalia, and now the "second Gulf War," there has never been the need to create as broad-based and far-reaching of a strategy as that which  has proven itself necessary in the wake of the September 11 attacks on America in New York, Pennsylvania, and Washington, D.C. While it is clearly related to domestic policies and  strategies, the student should understand that the comprehensive nature of Homeland Defense is a key point in American war policies. The policies that have been put in place serve as  a guide to the ways in which the nations law enforcement agencies, intelligence community, military operations, and federal and state government agencies can work together to assure a greater measure
