    to make life easier, which should, theoretically speaking, make people happy, right? Well, as studies have consistently shown, this assumption couldnt be any more wrong. While many benefits  have been certainly reaped from these enhancements, there has been a significant downside, in the form of internal stress resulting from the pressure to keep pace with rapidly changing times.  People have become expendable in an increasingly automated workplace, and the frustration resulting from job stress or employment termination can quickly turn to rage. With these advancements has  also come a collective mentality in America that contends all human beings should feel happy all the time. If they cannot sustain this euphoria naturally, it must then be  achieved through artificial means, such as stimulation through drugs and/or alcohol. These substances do not always alter behavior for the better, and research has shown they either accentuate violent  tendencies or provide a convenient excuse to justify abusive conduct. These acts of rage, described as domestic violence, usually manifest themselves behind the closed doors of American households.  Domestic violence is an all-encompassing term for abusive behavior which includes physical, sexual, psychological, property and pets. Its victims include not only the persons, place, or things the violence  is inflicted upon, but also victimizes the witnesses to such occurrences. With the knowledge gained through the encouragement of counseling and psychotherapy to combat problems; the scientific technology  that has ensured that the satisfaction of basic human desires are a simple mouse click away; and a more compassionate society that finally constitutionally assures civil and human rights will  be protected by law, common sense would dictate that incidences of domestic violence would significantly decrease.
