To consider the difficult position of Union Carbide of India Ltf (UCIL) find themselves in we  can use a SWOT analysis to look at the strengths weaknesses opportunities and threats and consider the potential strategies they may adopt, in addition to this recognition of the PESTEL  factors may help indicate which of the potential strategies is the most advisable. Strengths Union Carbide of India Ltd has some major strengths, the company has many sites in  India, it is listed as the twenty first largest in India in terms of sales, the level of importance to the economy also expected the company from relinquishing majority ownership  to Indian companies, a move from the 1977 that had seen other international companies such as Coca-Cola and IBM. The exception made by the government for UCIL where 50.9% of  the remained in the ownership of Union Carbide Corporation (USA). This indicated the level of importance that the Indian government attached to the companys importance to India. One of the  shareholders was a government run company. The comp may itself also has strengths in the way that it is diversified across several industries and participates in both national and international  markets to create income, reducing exposure to only a single market or industry risks.
