This may b seen in many  different scenarios, from the way in which jobs are awarded, to the way in which residents of retirement homes are treated as children, regardless of their metal capacity.  If we look at the way in which this is sought to be overcome we can look at many different projects that have been undertaken. However, to understand this we  also need to consider if there really is evidence for ageism present in the current society. If there is then these projects need to be considered more carefully, if it  is not, or only present in a few areas the resources used may be seen as better reallocated. Projects have included the consideration of legislation following the Amsterdam treaty and  the more recent National Service Framework for mental health (NSF) (Mind, 2002). When it comes to age discrimination difficult to categorise and evidence, so we can look to the law.  In many instances ageism is not seen as a valid form of discrimination, and it may also be related to equal treatment of the sexes. In the United Kingdom the  state pension was available at two different ages, sixty for women and sixty five for men. Therefore, we have a discrimination of age related to sex. This is a situation  that is changing, with women currently working having a retirement age of sixty five introduced incrementally. This may be seen primarily as a result the Douglas Harvey Barber v Guardian  Royal Exchange Assurance Group (1990) Case C-262/88 European Court reports 1990 Page I-1889. This can be seen as both a sexual equality case, but also one where it was age
