Introduction Henry David Thoreau was a simple man with an incredible ability to dig deep into the conditions of man and society, urging  people to essentially wake up and pay attention to the real important things in life. He was a humble man, or so it would seem, and a man who made  many examine the world we lived in. His words made a great deal of sense to people in his time, and people today, as he pointed out the arrogant and  greedy nature of man. In one of his works, his most famous works, "Walden," he addresses unjust laws, inciting men, and women, to disobey in active, and perhaps not  so active manners. In the following paper we examine his position on unjust laws, and discuss the various approaches we could be expected to take towards fighting those unjust laws.  In final examination we present the arguments concerning disobedience of such laws, even though those who would disobey are not the majority, a serious subject for examination. Unjust  Laws Exist Thoreau had chosen to life that was in some respects that of a recluse and a life of introspection for some time, which is when he wrote Walden.  During this period of time he needed his shoe fixed at one point and came to town to have it mended. Upon leaving the shoemakers he was confronted by one  who argued that Thoreau owed back poll taxes. Thoreau refused to pay and was put in jail. A relative paid for him.
