In the strategic analysis of businesses within the marketing sector, often a SWOT analysis is used  to accurately describe all of the components which need to be examined. Simply put, SWOT stands for an examination of the Strengths (S) and Weaknesses (W) of an organization as  well as the Opportunities (O) and Threats (T) which exist in the external environment of the business (MSH, 2002). In all cases of business analyses, managers and team members tend  to compose a SWOT analysis in order to determine the current standing of a business and implications for future endeavors. The idea of applying SWOT to a business is an  attempt to analyze and hope that the strength and opportunities of a particular business outweigh the impact of its weaknesses and threats. SWOT analyses can be used when first devising  a strategic plan for the implementation of a business or as a way to plan for a solution to a particular problem which has arisen in an industry (MSH, 2002).
