    parents, from birth, children are presented with role models of how to function as adults within their society and culture. It is by listening, watching and interacting with their  family members that children assimilate the values that are important to their families, as well as those that are important to the functioning of society, such as civility, respect and  taking personal responsibility for the consequences of ones actions. As this suggests, values refer to "shoulds," that is, "what people should do; the standards they should live by; or, the  things they should value, endorse, live up to or maintain" (Seefeldt, 2010). As peoples behavior differs, family values differ and, subsequently, the topic of values is controversial. The world  is becoming a more complicated place at increasingly fast rate, as innovation and technological advances in science and medicine are occurring constantly. Teachers have to prepare students to function in  a world where information is constantly changing and requires constant updating. In virtually every profession, there is no point where a practitioner can consider their education complete, as adults must  be constantly learning to stay current in their skills. Teachers should not have to address value education as well, as they already have a tremendous responsibility in educating the next  generation. Children should come to school with a family-engrained set of values that prepares them to interact civilly with their peers and teachers, showing respect for each other and ready  to take responsibility for their learning. If this position was accepted, one of the possible conflict that would undoubtedly be raised would be the position of teachers, such as  Brannon (2008), who points out that while, historically, young childrens values, that is, their understanding of right and wrong has been shaped by their parents, children today are coming to
