    the conquests of Chicano feminism. "Estela Portillo Trambleys female characters are strong and take center stage. Her work has forged new images of contemporary female presentation and challenged  our own unconscious stereotyping of Latino/as and their culture" (Latina/o Writers). One can readily gather from the values that Trambley supports that throughout society, patriarchy has been responsible for  designing womens role in society; many of these devices used in earlier centuries were related to religion. Certain scripture regularly challenged women to disprove that they were inferior-to not  agree was heresy. When religion did not work alone, scientific theory was included as a factor in the equation that supported the ideal that women are inferior. Based  upon a conviction of inferiority, male authorities were then able to design lifestyles for women, including approved activities, mannerism, education, sexuality and religious pursuits.  Indeed, the road to female freedom and self-expression has been paved with patriarchal intolerance and characteristic skepticism so much so that women have been forced to prove their worthiness  within the stringent boundaries of a male-dominated existence. This perpetual assertion speaks volumes about the inherent fortitude that comprises the female spirit. Trambley implies that the concept of  feminism embodies a number of critical theories by which to better address the various perspectives of interdisciplinary connection. As a means by which to establish a fundamental basis upon  which women could be perceived within the political, educational and economic components of life, the early rumblings of the feminist movement served to establish a semblance of organization between  and among the foundational elements of contemporary feminism. Trambley also addresses the fact that popular culture has had a significant impact upon womens perception throughout the centuries, implying that
