I. ABSTRACT  The authors of four peer-review articles assess the benefits and drawbacks of utilizing antiarrhythmic drug therapy and implantable defibrillators in patients with ventricular tachycardia and/or ventricular fibrillation.  The purpose of this literature review is to demonstrate the efficacy of antiarrhythmic drug therapy and implantable defibrillators as individual and synergistic applications, particularly with regard to how they have  been represented in scientific studies. II. INTRODUCTION The medical community is constantly working toward decreasing the mortality rate by improving its myriad procedures. Treatment modality for ventricular tachycardia  and/or ventricular fibrillation currently includes antiarrhythmic drugs and implantable cardioverter-defibrillator; however, studies continue to be conducted as a means by which to determine if one approach is, indeed, more beneficial  than the other or if there is a need to administer both in certain circumstances, a concern that requires an evidenced-based practice solution from a nursing perspective.
