While the conclusion sounds plausible, the truth is that most studies contradict that assumption. According to many researchers, media has an influence on children and teenagers. When violence is observed,
teens become desensitized to it and they sometimes imitate the worst scenes in their favorite films. In fact, most research in television violence does demonstrate a relationship between the
exposure to aggression and subsequently exhibited aggression (Derek, 1995). The television violence debate however has been expanded to include video games (1995). C. Everett Koop (1982) said that children are
attracted to video games which gets them to the point so that when they see another child being molested, they do nothing. It is presumed that in the past, before
violence invaded teen turf, adolescents would have been more willing to help. Now they shrug off horrific events. There has been a multitude of concerns growing regarding the effects
of playing violent video games. Some people believe that playing these kinds of games might lead to violent behaviors or more physical aggression. And while much has been made
about societal influences in respect to activity, as some believe that art prompts untoward behavior, others do not see a definite correlation. Still, many experts say that of particular importance
is the effect of video games on youth. Teens are now more aggressive than ever. Columbine is a prime example of what such critics of video games are talking about.
But are violent video games--admittedly on the rise--responsible for the despicable murders that play out on the nightly news today? In order to study this subject, it is proposed that
a survey be used to gather information. The real question is, can a correlation be made between playing violent video games and aggressive behavior in teenagers? II. Research
