    Africas most notable volcanoes" (Nyiragongo Volcano) - with another two hundred fifty thousand displaced from their homes and community. Evacuation efforts commenced at once - but many say not  soon enough - allowing for one-third to head west toward Sake, while another two-thirds headed east to Gisenyi in Rwanda. Clearly, the impact upon the social fabric of society  is such that Goma, as well as all other communities touched by the volcanic activity, all but ceases to exist after the extent of tremendous devastation. "Goma is deserted  and the town has been destroyed, with houses and buildings completely engulfed by lava and reduced to fiery ash. More than a dozen villages on the outskirts of Goma  have been incinerated" (500,000 Flee Congo Volcano). Volcanologists agree that Nyiragongo has spewed its last lava flow, in effect running the course of its existence (Fact Sheet: U.S. Aid to  Volcano Eruption Victims in Congo). However, that does not lessen the responsibility posed by local and federal governments in order to restore some semblance of normalcy to those detrimentally  impacted by Januarys eruption, as well as plan ahead for an incorrect prediction on the part of the experts. "Unless agencies start planning now for the next eruption of  Mount Nyiragongo, the millions spent on reconstruction will be wasted" (Solana PG). Relief efforts began immediately with an appeal for fifteen million dollars in order to cover the initial  fifteen days right after the volcanic blast; millions more were donated by global nations as a means by which to provide additional relief and address the need for rebuilding demolished  communities. Why the people of Goma, along with knowledgeable aid workers, were caught off guard in relation to Nyiragongos potential for eruption has
