The operations in a number of countries may also be seen as a strength spreading the risk, especially with the profitable purchase  of Asda in the UK. Weaknesses may also be seen in the company. The purchase of the Germany supermarkets, Wertkauf hypermarket and Interspar, has been a drain taking along time  for profits to be realised. The sheer size of the organisation which also has stores in Brazil, Canada, China, Korea, Mexico and Puerto Rico, managing this in time when changes  need t be made may be difficult. 2. Wal-Mart has any opportunities, many of the areas have potential to increase profitability, including the United States. There are also  increasing product lines, potentially larger economies of sale, and associated sales from new product areas. The company has also developed a core competency of acquisition, and as such many areas  may have new chains that can be acquired to increase the size of the organisation. Technology also offers many opportunities, not only as a distribution channel, but in terms of  management, such as radio frequency identification (RFID), a technology Wal-Mart is now testing which helps to ensure orders placed have been fulfilled correctly with tags that could replace bar codes  on order consignments. Threats include the threat posed by existing competitors, the economic environment where disposable income may fall and threats to the legal environment that may increase costs or  impact on operations. 3. Wal-Mart seeks to be a market leader, it has grown organically, and continued to do so, but intentionally grows by acquisition to gains entrance. The company
