    fact that societies implementation of laws which control not only the availability but also in effect the price of alcoholic beverages can influence the amount of these beverages which are  purchased and consumed (Osterberg, 1993). Accidents and deaths relating to the use of alcohol are also affected by these laws (Demer, 1997). Alaska has a  particularly interesting set of laws relating to alcohol. Like many other laws relating to the availability of alcohol, Alaska laws have varied in both their requirements and their affects  over time according to economic, social and cultural influences (Osterberg, 1993; Alaska Alcoholic Beverage Control Board, 1997).  Literature The literature concerning the regulation of alcoholic beverages in Alaska is varied but limited in content. Articles  range from those found in general publications such as the "Tundra Times", "Rocky Mountain News", and USA Today" to those in professional publications such as "The Journal of the American  Medical Society" and "Alcohol Health & Research World". This literature is supplemented somewhat by an informative but limited web site for the Alaska Alcoholic Beverage Control Board. For  the purposes of this report an effort was made to review the literature from each source based on the fact that the issue of alcohol legislation is not just a  professional one but one of considerable public interest as well.
