    negative. They include a generation of lost children, but children who seem to be rather self-sufficient and mature. Is the old stay-at-home mom mentality really not what it was thought  to be, or is the current two career couple trend responsible for the problems that exist in the up and coming generation. Feldman (1999) delves into the psychology of  careers in a text that provides general information in psychology. Here, the author explains that fundamental reasons why people choose the careers that they do, and why gender makes a  difference. The fact that children impacts the marital relationships and decisions about what to do is also key, and addressed in the volume. Clearly, children need both parents for desirable  growth and development, but parents sometimes make the decision to have more money, a larger home, and more things, and it is arguably all for the sake of the children.  In many cases the fact that parents claim that they are making more money for the sake of the children does not mean that they are being disingenuous. Rather, they  want to offer opportunities for their children such as college down the road, or a home in a good neighborhood. In todays day and age, where one lives matters. There  are high crime areas that one sometimes finds themselves stuck in, and they must live in a perpetual state of poverty. Sometimes, the fact that both parents work allows such  families that would otherwise be struggling in marginal neighborhoods the opportunity to live in a district with quality schools. While intentions are good, the outcome of the two  career family paradigm sometimes comes with undesirable consequences. To a large extent, the new model takes its toll on the women, and not the men.
