    a thought to finances. In this day and age, however, profit is as strong a motive for hospitals as getting patients well. Also strong is the ability and desire to  run hospitals more like a business. The purpose of this paper is to examine administrative issues that impact the New York University  Downtown Hospital, located in lower Manhattan. The paper will indicate stories of how administrative procedures work. When possible, scenarios exploring NYU Downtown Hospital will be used, however, where no information  on a topic was found, we will use a corresponding source and determine how it would best fit into NYU Downtown Hospitals format. As an aside, much will be written  about this hospitals response to the September 11, 2001 terrorism attacks on the World Trade Center. Because of the hospitals location, decisions, delegation and other administrative issues were put to  the test while the hospital tried to deal with the crisis in the hours and days following the attack. NYU Downtown Hospital - an Overview  NYU Downtown Hospital (which, for the remainder of this paper will be referred to as simply "NYU") is the closest acute care hospital to Lower Manhattan (About  NYU Downtown Hospital, 2002). As such, the hospital serves the Manhattan neighborhoods of Wall Street, Chinatown, SoHo, TriBeCa, Battery Park City and the Lower East Side (About NYU Downtown Hospital,  2002). The hospital is one of the oldest in New York City, having been established in 1853 by Dr. Elizabeth Blackwell, Americas first licensed female physician (About NYU Downtown Hospital,  2002). Today, NYU has a medical staff of more than 600 physicians, and links to other quality NYU hospitals throughout Manhattan (About NYU Downtown Hospital, 2002).
