of the National Labor Review Board Research Compiled for Enterprises Inc. 10/2001 to Use This Paper Properly,  INTRODUCTION The National Labor Relations Board maintains relations between employers and employees, particularly with regard to control issues. This paper will give a complete overview  of the National Labor Relations Board, also known as the National Labor Review Board. THE BEGINNING OF THE NATIONAL LABOR RELATIONS BOARD The National Labor Relations Act of 1935  is informally known as the Wagner Act. It is named for its sponsor, Senator Robert Wagner of New York. This Act created the National Labor Relations Board  (NLRB) and established workers right to collective bargaining. The right had been recognized in the National Industrial Recovery Act of 1933, but that act had been declared unconstitutional. The  Wagner Act contributed immensely to the New Deals popularity. Unions put their support behind Franklin D. Roosevelt in the 1936 election and helped secure a Democratic landslide at every election  level. THE TENETS OF THE WAGNER ACT AND THE NLRB The Wagner Act, also known as the National Labor Relations Act, was perhaps the most significant labor law enacted  in the United States up until that time. It guaranteed employees "the right to self-organization, to form, join, or assist labor organizations, to bargain collectively through representatives of their  own choosing, and to engage in concerted activities for the purpose of collective bargaining or other mutual aid or protection" (Wolchak and Grayson PG). The National Labor Relations act went  beyond a mere statement of principles; this was the creation of the original administrative machinery of the National Labor Relations Board.
