Nonetheless, it is a true and painful fact of life that American perceprions and beliefs about their own personal security has shifted in ways that assure that certain  aspects of modern life, such as air travel or the American sense of being invulnerable, will ever return to the way it was before the terrorist attacks. One industry that  is feeling the change in ways ranging from the financial impact of people being unwilling to fly to the physical requirements of changing the structure of their product is the  airline industry. Officials in the industry make it clear that they will do everything and anything to assure airline passengers safety. One of the ways they are making good on  that promise is through the implementation of biometric security measures that will serve as an additional way to screen passengers and identify those who are likely to present a threat  or who have already proven themselves to be dangerous. Regardless of how well-disguised a person may be, he or she cannot disguise their most fundamental biological basics. Defining "Biometric Security  Measures" The most commonly understood biometric security measure -- fingerprinting -- is one that mainstream Americans have been aware of since the days of Perry Mason of "The  Untouchables." Biometrics are at the foundation of personal identification. They are the means through which the uniqueness of individuals are examined and identified. Biometric technology has developed in ways that  allows for the scanning and recording of a persons identity through unique, unchangeable physical characteristics such as the blood vessels in a persons retina, the iris of an eye, or  the basic structural features of a face. Some biometric procedures, such as face scans, can be used from a significant distance and do not require the cooperation or permission
