    well known many countries automotive industries suffered as a result of the global recession. In some countries there have been more significant impacts than other depending on the importance of  the industry as well as economic conditions. Despite the problems seen on countries such as the US, it may be argued that the Indian Automotive industry is one that has  been developing and growing, benefiting from the lifting of the isolationist policy and opening up of the market in the early 1990s (Kripalani, 2004, Jerram et al, 1997). In this  country the industry is important, and while not widely recognised in the west, where the markets are dominated by General Motors and Toyota, the Indian automotive market is one of  the worlds largest automotive markets; with 1.43 million passenger cars sold in 2009 (Nair, 2010). In order to examine the market in more detail we will first define the market,  and then utilize Porters Five Forces Model. 2. The Market India is located in southern Asia, the seventh largest country in the world, it is a about one third of  the size of the United States (CIA, 2010). With borders to China, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Burma, Nepal and Bhutan the country is well connected, and with the population estimated to be  1,156,897,7661, growing at an estimated 1.407% per annum the country is the second most populated country in the world (CIA, 2010). The area is one that is undergoing economic  development, which is being seen focus in certain areas, such as Mumbai and Bangalore, where a high level of off shoring has taken place (Thompson, 2007). As the country has  developed economically there has been increasing level of disposable income, and increasing demand for different types of consumer and convenience goods. The movement towards industrialization is required more travel, and
