    life in Ancient Rome. However, the primary focus of the paper is on the Pliny letters and how they reveal information about family life. The significance of the letters in respect  to how they provide valuable information is discussed. Bibliography lists 6 sources. SA142Ply.rtf Gaius Plinius Caecilius Secundus, who  is also called "Pliny the Younger," was born in 61-2 CE ("Pliny," 2001). He was originally from Comum found in Northern Italy, and was from a wealthy but rising family  (2001). Pliny "the Elder " was his uncle, and was also a friend and advisor of the emperor Vespasian (2001). Plinys career had been summed up in respect to an  inscription found in Comum (2001). Plinys letters lacked the informal tone and political urgency that was usually included in Ciceros ("Pliny," 2001). At  the same time, they do give an occasional glimpse in respect to how the "inner circle" of imperial Rome had gotten things done (2001). Plinys main objective, was to produce  a literary work, that was similar to a modern collection of essays (2001). He covered many topics, which ranged from politics to ghost stories and one even entailed the eruption  of Mt. Vesuvius (2001). Included are a wide array of characters inclusive of the good emperor Trajan and an evil man, Regulus (2001). In looking at some letters, one  gets an idea about how a Roman aristocrat lived and what he looked for in a wife (2001). The letters written by Pliny  also gives one a sense of what family life was like in Roman times. It adds to the body of knowledge on the subject, and particular attention is paid to
