    who are leaders or rebels. We are instilled with images of men when it comes to history. This is not to say that we do not hear of the occasional  woman in history, for we do. But, her role is naturally only noted when she somehow stands out from the throngs of mothers and wives. We note Joan of Arc  who acted as a man and we note Queen Elizabeth of old who stood out because of, perhaps, her male like qualities and her position as queen. In essence, for  the most part there is little history that influences the evolution of humans that involves women. This is perhaps why Anita Diamants novel "The Red Tent" is so powerful for  it tells us a fictional tale based on realities of the time period. In the following paper we examine the historical significance of Diamants book. The Red Tent  The history of who we are and the history of our evolution is not merely made up of great battles and great leaders. It is a history that is often  passed down from one generation to another. It happens through subtle teachings instilled by parents and traditions that alter as times change. These are realities we rarely imagine when we  speak of history and these are powerful conditions spelled out in the fictional work of Diamant. Through her book we see parts of history that, although fictionalized, are based on  real conditions of the time. And, perhaps more importantly, it is a history that illustrates the changes occurring in a culture as it related to the power of women, a  part of history that is often kept out of the books we read.
