The reasons behind domestic violence are great and varied, as countless sociologists, anthropologists and psychologists have determined  from having examined the situation. What drives people to physically attack one another is based upon many issues that are presently occurring in the attackers life; also pertinent to  the situation is whether or not there is a history of domestic abuse that extends back through family generations. Q. Is domestic violence as prevalent  throughout the world as it is in America? A. Not surprisingly, domestic abuse is not limited to the United States; in fact there is  a high incidence of spousal abuse throughout the world. In countries where the male heads the household, the finances and all segments of the marriage, it is not uncommon  to find a significant percentage of the married female population enduring regular and constant bouts of abuse at the hands of their husbands or other family member. Such behavior  is looked upon as a gesture of complete control and often condoned - or at least ignored - by those in a position stop it. Q.  How important an issue has domestic violence become in recent years? A. As domestic violence has reached such heights as to headline the evening  news, the public has gained a broader understanding of the issue and now realizes how significant a problem it has become. Spousal abuse was once something that was kept  under wraps, because it was more readily tolerated than in contemporary times. Currently, however, tolerance towards domestic violence - at least in the United States - has reached an
