    In taking two years prior to the date of this paper, in April - May 2001 there were climbs in the majority of stock markets, however, this was followed by  a sharp drop. These changes were reflected thought-out the stock markets of the world, and in the different indices. However, as well as the global impacts and the influence of  the major markets, each market also saw its own, smaller level influences that impacted on the performance of the market. In London one of the main measures is the FTSE  100, this is made up of only 100 shares. The FTSE 100 is the Financial Times Stock Exchange 100 share index which is the weighted arithmetic index based on 100  securities, the base line is set at 1000 for January 3rd 1984. The current price on 3rd April 2003 is 3,771.10, this  is a slight increase over the last few days. However, as this is coming to the end of the tax year, demand for securities tends to increase as individuals seek  to make last minute investment to take advantage of different tax allowances, such as ISA allowances. This small increase, current up 17 points on the 2nd of April. This effect  is also seen in the FTSE 250 and may be seen to repeat a small increase that was also seen in the last week of March first week of April  in 2002. However, it is not the small movements that analysis will always want to pay attention to, it is the long  term patterns, The current pattern in one of general downward movement in a bear market. The movement of the FTSE 100 and FTSE 250 are shown in the graph
